If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
Sometimes the most obvious things seem like such an enlightenment! I have that once in awhile. But sometimes those simple, obvious things are just so important, we wonder how we didn’t think about them earlier?
I love Communion. It really is a wonderful time to remember Jesus’ sacrifice for us. As well as purify ourselves. Since we’re on the topic of purification, I wanted to stop right there. That is where I had my Aha! moment.
As simple as this truth may be, I thought about it deeply right then and there at Communion. So here we are, sinful people. The beauty is that we can be cleansed through Jesus’ blood BUT only if we confess our sins. Not just a general confession, “Oh God, please forgive me my sins!”
God wants us to confess our sins specifically! That is the way to be purified and to be changed for the better!
Have pride? Don’t we all! Confess it. Let God change you!
Jealous? Maybe a little… Confess that as well!
Constantly complaining, not being thankful for what a God gave you?
Like gossiping too much? You better believe it that a God wants you to confess that one!
The list can go on endlessly of course.
We all have our lists needed to be confessed. But we get so comfortable with our sinful nature, we figure, why bother? God loves us anyway!
Yes, indeed! He sure does love us beyond measure. But God wants us to live a fruitful life! He wants to bless us in ways we can’t even imagine. Those blessings don’t always particularly include earthly things we wanted, but spiritual blessings!
Give it a shot! Confess those sins you’re holding on to, and be free, be changed!
What’s something on your list you’re holding on to that you don’t want you confess?
