Paul stood up before them and said: “Men, you should have taken my advice not to sail from Crete; then you would have spared yourselves this damage and loss. Acts 27:21
The more I read about Paul in Acts, the more amazed I am with how close he was to God. The Holy Spirit guided him through every step of the way. Even when a storm arises, and everyone on the ship loses hope in being saved, Paul assures them everything will be ok. They will suffer loss, but not any human lives. They will however, lose the ship.
This story from Acts 27 made me correlate us and God. Many times, we choose not to listen to Him, just like the sailors did not listen to Paul. As a consequence, we experience loss and much heartache. Only then we realize, “I shouldn’t have done things my way. I should have listened to what God says in His word and through the Holy Spirit.”
The best part is though is that God will help us through any storm, regardless. He sure helped Paul and the crew. Even though we make many mistakes, God is with us, by our side. He is ready to give us comfort in any storm of our lives, whether it is a mild storm wind or a level five hurricane.

When was a time you disobeyed God and then experienced major heartache or a big loss?
