Love Is a Choice

And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight. Philippians 1:9

First time I heard the expression “love is a choice”, I completely denied it. I thought love was something that comes so naturally. That it is this feel-good, dreamy feeling. Yes, love can be and is partly where it just sweeps you off your feet. However, that is not the only kind of love there is between a couple.

Love is a choice.

It is a choice to be a loving, responsible head-of-the-household husband.  It is a choice to be an obedient, loving wife.

It is a choice to make sacrifices in a relationship.

To stand each other’s bad habits, mistakes, falls.

To forgive.

To accept.

These things don’t come easily.  They come with lots of prayer. Possibly even some fasting. They come when our relationship with God is close.  When we learn to love how God loved. Without his strength and His love, it is impossible to choose love when the world says “It’s all about me and my needs & wants!”

Love is a choice.

Jesus chose love. He sacrificed Himself ~2,000 years ago for humanity, for us.  To this day, He loves us no matter what.  Even when we don’t choose love, He still loves us and waits for us to call onto Him.

Choose to love.  Your spouse. Your child(ren). Your neighbors. Your enemies. Our Jesus.
