Our Gentle Father

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! 1 John 3:1

When my son gets sick, I always want to give him extra gentleness and extra love. I want to be more caring than ever. It hurts a lot to see my child sick, and I want to do everything in my power to ease his pain. In his moment of weakness, he likes to be in my hands. I feel so loving and tender, knowing I can be there for him to give him comfort.

If God is our Heavenly Father, then imagine just how much more he wants to give us His comfort when we are in pain. Whether we are hurting emotionally or physically, He wants to hold us close to ease the pain that we are going through. If we, as human parents want to help our hurting child because of our parental love, then the One who loves with the greatest love of all, wants to be OUR Comforter.

Unfortunately, many times we want to reject that love and comfort that He wants to give us. We as humans, with our human thoughts think it’s not something God can help us through. We might think we can get through life’s problems on our own, but it is just so much easier and relieving to have the Almighty God help us through life.

He is the wisest parent one can have. He loves us gently and teaches us life lessons in His own gentle ways. Our part is to have faith in Him that He can be that shoulder to cry on whenever we need. When things don’t always go our way in our family, at work, with our friends, financially, or whatever it may be, just know that we are “children of God” with the best Father one can ever possibly have.
